Small collection in a beautiful setting
A very enjoyable visit to the personal collection of Fritz Mayer van der Bergh, assembled after his untimely death by his mother Henriette. I wish the museum covered a bit more about the life of the collector himself. There is an audio guide which only covers the last few bits of the museum - definitely wish it covered more - and the staff gave me a nice booklet with more information about the other collections. I found the galleries very charming, especially the family portraits of the Vekemans and the Giambologna crucifix! The highlight of the collection is Pieter Brueghel’s “Mad Meg”, but there isn’t a whole lot of information about it! I definitely wish there was more, especially since Meg, or “Dulle Griet” is a figure from Flemish folklore and I was totally unfamiliar with the story the painting depicts. My days in Antwerp were very cold, windy, and rainy and this museum was a delightful place to spend the time.

A mother realizes her son’s dream
This tiny museum is a great memory to her son. He collected art from all over and died at a young age. His mother opened this to show the world his collections which range from medieval statues and authentic Bruegel’s. One painting Mad Meg is not shown or copied anywhere else. Great time well spent. I encourage you to visit.
