love this striking fountain

loved this fountain, and even more when we learned the story behind it. basically Brabo has destroyed the giant who has been terrorizing common folk. the fountain is interesting to view, with a severed head, different creatures, and a lady appearing to be throwing up because of the water spurting out of her mouth. we also liked the rough rocks surrounding the base. fantastic spot for pictures in a gorgeous square.

    Iconic!
As a sinjoor, although not living in the city anymore, Brabo is and will always be an Antwerpian icon, as much as the catherdral in my view. He represents the story of Antwerp and the tenacity of it's people. This statue is the representation of the city and I will always look upon it with pride, whenever I visit Antwerp I visit Brabo! The beautiful square, the shadow of the cathedral, the town houses and impressive town hall circling Brabo enhance this monument to the legend of Antwerp.

    Sleight of hand!
I'm not that much of a "fountain guy" but this one located in Antwerp's Grote Markt is quite special. It's fascinating to learn the legend behind this statue (i.e., about a giant that severed hands of captains not paying tolls, then having his own hand severed by Brabos and thrown in the river). According to one legend, Antwerp is named after the hand thrown in the river.
