Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park, Florida, United States

A Florida Treasure

A first visit for us today but hopefully not our last. We walked on trails through beautiful woodlands and marshlands after touring the sugar mill area filled with history and then ended up at the four hundred year old live oak. There were hikers and bikers of all ages enjoying the beautiful day in the great outdoors.

Hard to find Bulow but worth the effort- use smart phone maps.
This off the beaten path historic site is a treasure. Ruins are visually arresting with many interpretive signs and exhibits. The unpaved but well graded one mile entrance road adds to the adventure and traverses a jungle like coastal hammock that ends at a tributary of the Halifax river.

    Cool ruins
Of all the parks around Ormond that we have visited, this one is the best. More ruins, well documented, picnic tables, screened in area with picnic tables, restrooms, what looks to be a boat slip, and canoes that they used to rent for $40 a day. There is a sign there currently saying they aren’t for rent, probably bc of COVID. There is not a park ranger around to ask any question to. It is an honor system for paying the $4 to get in. You place the money in an envelope and place the tag/sticker like thing on your dash so if the ranger were to drive by, you would be following the rules and would have paid. You can hike to the Bulow Creek state park too. I believe it was 6 miles, perhaps that is round trip, don’t quote me on the distance. We drove to both. Perfect place to visit on a cloudy day when there is not anything else to do at the beach.
