Best trekking in Madagascar

The trekking in Andringitra is one of the top memories of my trip in Madagascar. The park is really beautiful. You go through very different landscapes during the trekking to Pic Boby, from lush vegetation near the Fils and Fille waterfalls to rocky views closer to the summit. All the way up to the summit is well conditioned which makes it easy to climb up, even given the big elevation gain during some of the days. It's actually like doing a very long stairs. Make sure to start from one of the entrances and come out from the other (east and west) so you can enjoy different areas of the park. I'm so happy I did the trekking with Mi (00 261 34 18 309 66, facebook Zafinarivo Ravolananahary). He has a lot of experience as a guide, knows the park and takes care of everything. He made the whole trekking more enjoyable and fun, and he speaks both English and French

    Best hiking in Madagascar
This park can be reached from 2 different valleys: the Namoly valley and the Tsaranoro valley. Both are difficult to get to but I think the drive to the Namoly valley is the worst. The main park office is in the Namoly valley from where you can make daywalks while staying in Tranogasy (if you don't like camping). There is a smaller park office in the Tsaranoro valley where you can stay in camp Catta but you can't do daywalks into the park from there because it is further away from the park. Camp Catta offers daywalks but those won't take you into the National Park proper. We started in the Namoly valley and walked to the base camp for the Pic Bobby climb. It is a couple of hours walking to that base camp and after that you can easily go for the summit on the same day. A lot of the tour groups do the climb to the summit in the middle of the night to watch the sunrise at the top but that means hardly any sleep and walking a spectacular walk up in the dark. I think they take around 4 hours for the climb up but I did in 2 hours during the day. The next day we walked out of the park via the Tsaranoro valley and stayed in Camp Catta for a few nights. So you if you are pressed for time you can see the highlights of this park in 2 full days of fairly hard walking with 1 night in Tranogasy so you can make an early start, 1 night of camping in the park and 1 night in Camp Catta at the other end. Needless to say that the scenery is spectacular and a must do in Madagascar. This park is surprisingly well managed and the trails are perfectly maintained (to the point that you don't even need a guide because you can't get lost). The only downside to this park is that (if you don't want to go with an agency) you have to have your own 4x4 and because of that it is an expensive excursion.

Beautiful trek with JB in the park Andringitra
We spent 4 days in the park with Gege an excellent guide working for JB trekking. He took care of the guiding, the food, and the jokes to help us climbing when it became difficult. The park is accessible taking a taxi brousse in Ambalavao to Vohitsaoka (1h30), and then walking 2h30 to a camp (JB camp). The 2nd day, we walk 10h to the 3rd camp of the park enabling to reach the pic Boby. During the evening, the weather turned very bad. So the 3rd day, we had to give up climbing the pic, and we went back to JB camp using another path. (7h) The day after we walked to Vohitsaoka to go back to Ambalavao. Even without the pic, the trek is very beautiful : rice field, waterfall, montain, lunar landscape. There are also some lemur near the camp.
