Anja reserve

This was slightly SOUTH of Finarantsoa, one of the biggest towns in the country. I'd wanted to re-visit Anja for a while and it was fun to discover Andigrinta. Having been to Madagascar so many times before, only the Tsingy of Bemahara and Andigrinta were new to me. I definitely want to stay at Camp Catta again in 2023 for 2 or 3 nights. SO much to see there... Anyone interested in joining me, let me know and I can start planning another cracking (but far less hectic) itinerary. I could also easily spend 3 nights at the Palmarium as it was sooo relaxing there and we could have all happily stayed a bit longer there too. Thanks again Bruno, Fanou, Elisee and our drivers (Hery & Manitra) for ensuring we had the best possible time in spite of countless Covid related challenges.

    Great trip on RN7
The guide was great, with his friends going ahead to locate the different families of lemurs, and we got close to them and some fabby photos. Then I asked if they had giant milipedes there, and they went off and looked for one - they found a small one, with a lot of effort - thank you! Lots of smiles and a great afternoon!

    Ring tail lemurs
If you're British and of a certain age, like me you'll have very fond memories of 'Animal Magic', in which Johnny Morris was accompanied by the adorable Dottie, the ring tailed lemur. The Anja Reserve is a fantastic opportunity to see these amazing animals up close as a large number of them live in the trees that form a wooded area underneath the dramatic 'Gateway to the South'. You need to book ahead to visit as you can only explore the Anja Reserve with a guide. It is community-run, so all the guides are local people. There is also a restaurant/bar by the carpark, with bathroom facilities. The trail through the wood leads you to a picturesque freshwater lake with water lilies.
