Iglesia de Santa Maria la Mayor, Extremadura, Spain
4.5 (263 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Province of Caceres Churches & Cathedrals
Visiting the historical center of Trujillo.
Another interesting location on your walk can be the “Church of Santa María la Mayor” which is a Catholic religious temple who is also part of the historical centre. The church is built into the late Romanesque style, the construction of it started into the 13th century, after woods she was rebuilt and expanded in the 15th and 16th centuries but then into the Gothic style. Following the peoples believe and the history the church has been built on the same place where previously stood a Muslim mosque that was used until the thirteenth century. Anyhow once again a nice location into the historical centre.

Nice church interior, partially gothic, partially Romanesque with barok altar
From the outside an interesting church with 2 bell towers and a smaller, circular tower in between. Inside an architecturally very nice church, blending Romanesque with gothic in architecture and a large barok altarpiece. One can climb both towers, the newer one being build after the original bell tower largely collapsed. The smaller circular tower is part of the climb to the newer tower. However, they also rebuild to old tower, and also this one can be climbed. Great views from either.
