Roman history comes to life
The main attraction is the tower in the middle of the city. The excavations are still being done and, with a little imagination, you can almost get a feel for what life was like in this place 2000 years ago. It is free to visit and there are not many tourists, even in summer. Definitely worth a couple of hours of your time.

Serendipity.
Serendipity led us to find this amazing attraction. We were driving south from Salamanca towards Seville and pulled off the A-66 (motorway) at Junction 455 so we could re-fuel and have a coffee. We noted signs for ‘Arco romano de Cáparra’ and as it was not far (5km), we thought we’d give it a try. The site is well excavated and work is still under way. The extent of the roman town is remarkable and well worth this short detour. Beware on hots days, there is very little shelter – although there is a visitor centre with toilets and a potted history of the site.

Just off the highway
A nice little find off the highway past Plasencia. So worth the five minute detour - well maintained with visitor centre and signposted info in different languages. A must if youre driving past!
