Nine Mile Pond Canoe Trail, Florida, United States

4.5 (51 reviews) Spent Ranking #10 in Everglades National Park Nature & Wildlife Areas

Fantastic morning

We met our guide Skyler (so sweet and knowledgeable) at the pond. There were 6 canoes and her that headed out on the pond. There were 2 alligators swimming in water close to where we were so had to wait for them to clear out first! . We travelled through the mangrove tunnels. Skyler lead and banged on her kayak to warn any alligators or crocodiles that we were coming. We did pass one alligator but saw no crocodiles. One couple had a hard time steering the canoe around all the turns and Skyler made sure that they didn’t get left behind. Did get a few mosquitos so wish we would have put on repellent first. Skyler answered tons of questions during the trip. We learned so much and had such a great time.

    Must do!
We took a ranger-led canoe outing with a group of about 8 canoes and had a lovely time. We did not see any wildlife, but navigating the waterways and mangroves and seeing the ecosystem from this perspective was amazing. The trail is well-marked with tall white poles (numbered), and we could have easily navigated it on our own without a guide. Such a unique way (and free with a ranger!) to get off the road and see this River of Grass!

    Absolutely Amazing!
I believe that this is called the "canoe the wilderness" tour on the Everglades website. It requires a reservation that can be made up to 7 days in advance. It is FREE!! This was one of the most amazing things we did on our vacation. We met at 7:45 am at 9 mile pond, and a ranger led us on a 3 hour canoe trip through the pond. We watched the sun come up over the everglades. There was plenty of wildlife! We are not expert canoe people, and we had a few struggles to figure it out, but it was fun and so worth it! We had a lovely day in the park, and this was a stellar beginning.
