Worth the drive in
Given that the park is so gigantic, it does seem worth the drive down to this southern point to get the feel for things that are a little different than up north. We did a boat tour (which is definitely recommended), but even if you skipped that, you'd be able to see the manatees, some of the shoreline, and set up for RV / camping. We went in the dry season on a weekend morning and there were no crowds. The visitor's center (except for the tiny temp trailer version) remains closed, which is too bad, as I think it will be nice once open later this spring.

Worth the drive
Interesting place. The visitor’s center is under construction so there is a temporary set up with bathrooms. We saw a few manatees. I will look forward to coming back to see the hotel and restaurant that’s being built and also to walk or bike.
