Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center, Florida, United States

Excellent place to see the southern Everglades
Having already visited the Shark Valley area of the Everglades, we wanted to see the southern area on this visit. The Ernest Coe Center is a great way to begin your journey as the center includes a small museum, restrooms and a gift shop. The center contained much information including the Nike Missile site, various trails and a map for those wishing to drive the entire road through this part of the park, which is about 29 miles each way. The visitor center hours are 9-5. We found the rangers to be very helpful when describing the various activities within this section of the park. At the center, we only spent about 45 minutes before spending several hours touring the park and it's various trails and the Nike site. Well worth starting here to get the information you need.

Good Place for Information and Gifts
I stopped into the Ernest Coe Visitor Center before heading down to Flamingo. I’m glad I did! The ranger on duty let me know that several sites were closed either for the season or other reasons. I was able to plan out several spots to head toward. The gift shop had a good amount of books and souvenirs. There is also a small museum with some of the natural features discussed as well as local history including the Nike Missile Base. This is definitely where you want to start any trip into Everglades National Park.

Nice that it's outside the pay area
We stopped by to get some paper info / maps of the area, which definitely seemed to help guide things better than looking at a cell phone. For us, parking early in the morning on the weekend was not a problem, though it got busier by mid-afternoon. You can visit without entering the fee-only area, which is convenient for planning purposes. Good exhibits for those interested.
