More snow - better service - lots of snow - real Norwegian experience
Having rented a cabin privately we skied both alpine and cross country in sjusjoen. I enjoyed it much more than Hafjell or Kvitfjell. After coming in week 7 in 2013, and week 6 in 2014, it was a clear difference, Sjusjoen is higher up than Hafjell, or whatever is with the weather, and gets incredible amount of snow. For the alpine center, it is very well equipped and staffed, the free kids run without any registrations or wasted time is excellent for beginners large and small, the alpine runs are well made, again lots of snow. And the service for the lift, ski rental, teachers etc is really good. We had our own cross country equipment but rented alpine. It was nice, new, and we were allowed to change freely between downhill and snowboard for that week. The service was personal and excellent. I was there and a elderly lady had gone too far cross country. A taxi was called for but would need some time. No problem, one of the young guys would drive her home, free, of course. As for the skiing, The tracks were not crowded. It was cold on the top of the mountain, but hey, it was a vacation in Norway, trees covered in snow and frost, a mixture between cold and hot, snow and sun. Magical. Two years in a row to Sjusjoen, some beginner skiers, some whom skied all life, kids, my wife and me, old grandfather, all loved it.

    Sjusjoen cross country ski trails
Sjusjoen cross country ski trails are excellent. I was there late in the season and it was the same weekend as the Troll ski marathon and the snow was great. It was sunny and the trails were in perfect condition despite the heavy use. There is a large network of trails. Nice undulating runs and a rather nice one along the lake. There are plenty of cafes and refreshment stops and a large car park ( but you can get there by public transport too). I still prefer the skiing in Venabu/Rondane and further north for a longer trip and Oslo is great in the heart of winter for a weekend trip but when it is the end of the season and you just want to get one more weekend of ski in this is a great choice. You can get the last flight out to Oslo, get the last train from Oslo airport up to Lillehammer, stay at the Station hostel and be up on the ski trails first thing Saturday morning. Ski all weekend and get back to Oslo airport for the late flight back. The snow is still good late season in Lillehammer compared to Oslo.
