Nice little museum
The Norwegian Railway Museum was formed as a private initiative as early as in 1896. The main exhibition provides an insight into the social development of Norway during the 1800s and 1900s. A children’s play area with trains and other toys is also available. The exhibition is open all year round. The museum has its own spacious outdoor area comprising an open-air exhibition with old station buildings, sheds for rolling stock, historical track systems, signals and other national railway heritage buildings. Some of the buildings provides temporary exhibitions. Buildings are open from June to September. Paths in the museum park will be cleared of snow during winter. A small, narrow gauged train has operated in the museum park every summer since 1962. The line is 500 metres long and the rail gauge is 750 mm. A passenger-carrying electric garden train will run during the summer season. A restaurant carriage operates as a café during summer.

Great place to visit with kids
A great place to visit for families with kids, or for those who are genuine interested in Norwegian trains and train history. Free parking. Big park around for picnic. Real steam train takes you from one end of the museum to the other. We loved it!

Nice little railway museum
The Norwegian Railway Museum is a nice technical museum. It is not very large, but the museum still has several interesting historical objects on display, and lots of child friendly activities on offer as well. One nice touch is the narrow gauge railway that goes back and forth in the museum area. The steam locomotive and the wagons are real, but still seem charmingly child sized. I would very much recommend a visit to this museum, if you are in the vicinity of Hamar.
