Telemark

Probably only for people of a certain age. The journey thru the valley to the museum shows how difficult it would have been to attack the place. They have built a new part over a previously demolished building, which only opened recently. Needs a few more exhibits, but still interesting to look at.

    History, Scale, and Rememberance
The Industrail Workers Museum near Rjukan in in a building that was the factory for the production of heavy water in WW2. There are many books and movies that document the Allies' desparate effort to destroy the plant. Germany used the heavt water in their atomic bomb development. The Norwegian Industrial Worker's Museum is just one part of a large museum that includes some of the heavy water plant equipment, an excellent history display and movie about the war, and a tribute Norwegian workers everywhere. Access is across a flimsy 1-lane bridge and is only accessible by cars having disabled occupants. In the tourist season, a shuttle is available for trasport to and from a nearby location. The climb from the bridge is long - may 45 minutes of up and more up. Definitely a must-see, especially for anyone interested in WW2 history. The nearby compnay town of Rjukan is small, but very pleasant, situated on a small river.
