Colourful and different

Well worth watching the video about the Owl Houses eccentric Miss Martins before going into the house to understand her better. Her sculptures with lovely colour glass woven in are eccentric and different but tell us much about her state of mind. Inside the house is bright with colours and decorative glass and mirrors. Worth visiting

    A Different Experience
We were not sure about this place as its a rather sad & odd story. Found it a bit eerie at times The Owl House is about 50km from Graaff Reinet & the last few km's is on gravel road which is driveable with any vehicle. Be careful for cattle on the main tar road Please take along cash as they don't have card machines but you can use Snapscan It starts off with a short video of Helen Martins life & then you head off through to the main house & garden filled with artwork , which I guess can only be appreciated if you into art/sculptures . Some very strange sculptures Certainly something different & worth a stop. Also a nice scenic drive to get there with some really beautiful old homes in the Town

    Hidden Treasure
I was fortunate to visit Owl House in 1999 and again this year. So much has changed and now it is a known tourist attraction. Most of the upgrades are good and stimulate local economy, however more needs to be done for the maintenance of the house and garden. The displays in the house need to be kept cleaner in order to preserve them and the art that fills the garden needs TLC. A tour guide would be helpful, in order to give visitors the best possible experience and understanding of the garden.
