    Incredible!
This is, without a doubt, one of the highlights of Easter Island. There are 396 moai in this quarry which is an extinct volcano that has an amazing fresh water crater. Some of the statues are still in the rock of the quarry never to be moved. Others are in a process of getting their backs finalized and highlighted. Some are in the staging area waiting for the moving crew to bring the moai to its platform. The larges moai ever carved is located here called Te Tokanga or El Gigante which measures 66 feet and weighs 220 tons. Public toilets are available here for $1. Lighting is best in the early morning or mid/late afternoon. Entrance to the site is by the hut behind the parking lot. You will need to have your entrance ticket stamped by the park ranger. On entering the site, the path forks to the right or left. The crater is on the left and the quarry is on the right. It is recommended to see the quarry first. Steep, uneven terrain in places.

    Truly a photographer’s delight
This attraction should not be missed by any traveler while in Easter Island. More than 400 Moais decorate the hills of this valley where they were carved before being taken to their final destination. Most never got there and remain at this attraction in a magnificent panorama. The best way to explore is by walking around to view these giant unfinished Moais. Expect a lot of walking but every bit of walking is worth it. Would certainly very highly recommend this attraction to any traveler. Truly a photographer's delight.
