Museum, gift shop and restaurant
The Thorbergur Center is a cultural center with an exhibition dedicated to the great writer Thorbergur Thordarson born in the area. You can get here also plenty of information of the icelandic culture. Also exhibited are photographs which show the community’s working and social life between 1930 and 1960. Beside the museum there is a gift shop and restaurant in this place. Good food, clean bathrooms, very friendly service at a good price.

Visit to Museum and Lunch at Restaurant
This museum is located right off highway 1. The building is out in the countryside quite a ways from Hofn. You can recognize it by the wall of huge books on the outside of the building. The front of the building is a restaurant where we ate. We had cod and smoked char for lunch. The food was good, but not the best we had on our trip. I also had a hot chocolate, which was very good. They served it elaborately with lots of whipped cream. After lunch, we visited the museum, which was very interesting. The museum was fairly small. It showed the home of a farm family during earlier times in Iceland along with other interesting exhibits. It was really well organized and presented. They also exhibited some wonderful photographs of scenery in one of the dining rooms. Overall, it was a worthwhile stop.
