Fjallsarlon Iceberg Lagoon, East Region, Iceland

4.5 (339 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #5 in Jokulsarlon Bodies of Water

Just as impressive as Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

It was late November and the sun comes up around 10am. It is a great sight to see Fjallasrion Iceberg Lagoon as the sunlight first strikes the glacier above and then the mountains flanking the lagoon, and finally as the light reaches the water, but just barely as the sun doesn't rise too high in Iceland during Winter. It's much smaller than Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, but it is more intimate and you fell more involved with the surroundings. It is truly impressive and beautiful. The icebergs in the lagoon add some action to the lagoon as they float around, being driven with the wind.

    Stop here before Jökulsárlón
10 kilometres before Jokulsarlon if you are coming from Vik, is this less spectacular glacier lagoon. The guidebooks recommend stopping at both places, particularly as here you can see the glacier face, provided the weather behaves. As you will see from the pictures there is a very good view of the glacier face, and you can see the glacier calves in the lagoon. And there were very few people unlike at Jökulsárlón, which was the busiest place on our whole 21-day ring road trip.

    Unique Overnight Adventure
A favorite place to see and visit during our Iceland adventures! The glacier and icebergs are incredible to see. We stayed in the Aurora Hut overnight on the lagoon and was an excellent experience and recommend for either couples or solo travelers. Aron was our private guide and was friendly and informative!
