    History Comes Alive
The Dunedin Historical Society put on its 24th annual History Comes Alive celebration today at the Dunedin Cemetery. This cemetery is located on Keene Road just south of Main Street (580) in Dunedin. It opened in 1871 and the first person buried there was Alexander Anderson in 1876. Elizabeth Tate had the earliest birthday of the occupants, 1803, and was buried there in 1886. During this celebration, re-enactors dressed in historically accurate period costumes. with artifacts and photographs explain what life was like in those early days of Dunedin. Fascinating stuff for history buffs. Knowing the bustling little city of Dunedin today, it is hard to believe that what is now Edgewater Park was once a cotton gin loading ships to transport the cargo at the pier next to now the Bon Appetit restaurant and that the total population of Dunedin was only 50 people. Every year, the society chooses different characters to re-enact. So next year, there will be different personalities depicted. I highly recommend attending next year's event and in the meantime, visit the museum downtown on Main Street. You can't miss it. It is located in the old train depot smack dab in the middle of downtown.

Worth your time to stop by
Wonderful museum and gift shop! Staff is knowledgeable. Book and gift selection was top notch. Bought four books on the local history. History museum displays pull you right in and we’re very informative and engaging. Definitely stop by.
