National Mall
Be sure to take sunscreen and an umbrella and plenty of water. The city is currently installing some new water refilling stations, but there are only a few around that work. Very expensive, so plan on spending a lot of money unless you take snacks and drinks in a backpack with you.

Very pleasantly surprised
We spent Friday afternoon and most of the day Saturday touring the mall and visiting a few museums. The mall is a true gem that does not exist anywhere in the world. So much history and information completely free for all to visit. This was our first experience at the African American Museum and we were really in awe of the entire place. The exhibits were very informative with top notch execution. Highly recommend all visitors to the Mall make time to see this museum.
