    Well worth a visit
Whilst the museum itself is quite small (only 2 rooms were open), and there’s relatively little about frankincense, it is a worthwhile museum to visit. It’s beautifully laid out, informative with some good videos. It provides a good synopsis of Omani history and the country today. The adjoining Al Balid archaeological site is also really interesting and huge (ticket covers both). You can walk amongst this site where archaeologists are still working, and the reference signs in English are very good. Lovely walk through and down to the pristine white village - and an hours walk back to the souk.

Worth a visit, but less so at the weekend
Opening times on Friday and Saturday are very limited and the cafe and shop are not open. The hall about the old city and the frankincense trade are good but would have been better if the videos had been working. There's an impressive collection of models and replicas of local ships in a separate hall - if you're interested in that kind of thing.
