What a great, informative, emotional experience.
We had a lovely private tour from a well-informed docent. I knew so little about Mary McLeod Bethune but this tour helped me understand what an amazing and inspiring woman she was. I wish everyone would find their way to this beautiful house and learn about this life. The world would be a better place today if there were more Mary Bethunes in it...

A rich historical house & life
Yes, it is not in the most desirable of neighborhoods but we didn't feel it was a deterrent to see and learn about the life of Mary Bethune and her amazing work and life. My 2nd grader had learned about her in class and felt it would be a privilege to visit her home. All our questions were patiently answered and we were given the opportunity to witness all original furniture and library. Lots of places don't have original furniture and have replacements with the understanding it is within that period. We loved seeing her personal effects, the famous people who had entered her home and were her personal friends. It is free, you can leave a small donation. My children and I were treated with respect for our visit. A quiet college town.
