Will Go Back!

Since opening in 2001, the Frist Art Museum has hosted a spectacular array of art from around the world. Not only an important cultural focal point for the city of Nashville, it is also a significant architectural structure, occupying one of Nashville’s great historic landmarks, the former main post office. Constructed from 1933 to 1934 under the direction of the local architectural firm of Marr & Holman, it displays both of the most distinctive architectural styles of the period: Classicism and Art Deco.

    Highly recommend for kids
I wanted to see the Picasso exhibit and my kids wanted to do the Art Quest section. We highly recommend the Art Quest section. It was a lot of fun and some really cool things that we had not seen before (when we travel we always try to stop at art and science things for the kids). Due to covid restrictions you need a reservation to get into the Art Quest section and you can spend 1 hour there. We probably could have spent about 2 hours there but the kids were happy with an hour since we told them to prioritize the stations.

Art and the Architecture both worth the time.
We stumbled into a free architectural tour of the building that houses the Frist Art Museum (FAM). The tour was great. The lady who did the tour was involved in the formation of the FAM which is a publicly supported museum. The FAM does not own there own collection which means every show is a special event. It is a bit costly to enter the galleries but you can see part of the building for free. The building is a former central post office and is itself a work of art. We did not see the entire show but what we saw on the architectural tour was incredible. We have been to countless art museums and this one is very interesting. How you like it may be predicated on the show that they have installed at the time. No matter what, go see the building. Enjoy!
