A local gem for international visitors
A comprehensive yet digestible learning experience, especially for those less familiar with pre-Colombian civilizations. It's a really important addition for anyone planning to visit Machu Picchu during their time in Peru, as it will greatly supplement your understanding of the history and architecture there. The museum contains many artifacts, all in near-perfect condition, and tasteful simulations of the different civilizations. The exhibitions are designed thoughtfully. Each hall paints a unique image of each of the 7 major pre-Inka cultures. Together, they thread a cohesive and compelling narrative of 5000 years of history, which is no easy feat. I learned so much during the two hours I was there. I cannot recommend this museum enough. Truly a local gem!

    A Different kind of Museum
This is a new museum located just north of the small town of Urco in the Sacred Valley and covers 8 different Peruvian cultures from the Caral to the Inka. We have made several visits with our guests and everyone has fully enjoyed their visits. They are still working on some of the rooms and exhibits, but it is well worth the stop to visit. They have 8 rooms, one for each culture and the individual rooms are divided into two separate rooms, the first room has reproductions of artifacts and information, and the second room is like a wax museum with a life-size diorama of one aspect of the life of that culture. And did I mention your entry includes a guided tour.
