The Wayna Picchu mountain, Wayna Pikchu in Quechua, (with an altitude of 2667 meters above sea level) is part of the eastern foothills of the Salcantay massif, in Cusco, Peru. It is part of a large orographic formation known as Batolito de Vilcabamba, in the Central Cordillera of the Peruvian Andes and is known mainly as the backdrop of most photographs

Worth every step!
One of the greatest (and most difficult) hikes in the world! This is a challenging hike! My wife and I are in our early 60s, I’m a little fearful of heights, and we are in very good (but not triathlon-good) physical condition. And we made it! In the rain! We took our time, ascended carefully and enjoyed the views, captured our photos, and descended even more carefully. Took us about 3 hours. There were only a few areas near the top (“The Stairs of Death”) that I felt truly treacherous. Most of the way is tough but not potentially deadly. The views are spectacular and the accomplishment of reaching the pinnacle of such an iconic mountain is unsurpassed. If you’re there, and you can do it, you should!

The other magical sister of Machu Picchu
Get your Machu Picchu tickets 5 to 6 months in advance to hike Huayna Picchu or they will be sold out. The Circuit 4 + Huayna Picchu is the one that gets sold out. This circuit is somewhat challenging, but almost anyone can do it, even if overweight, as long as you take your time and have no medical issues. My husband and I completed the mountain in 5 hours. That's with taking in the views at the top. Don't let the "stairs of death" moniker scare you away, just do it. You will not regret it. I used Huaynas Expeditions travel agency to book the tickets and the tour from Cusco via the Sacred Valley which we highly recommend.
