    A hidden gem!
If you are in Killybegs, don’t miss this fabulous little museum which has an uncertain future.. the location has been sold and goodness knows what will be placed on the site so go there whilst you can. The carpet museum is fascinating, watch the explanatory video first, you won’t regret it as you will learn so much about hand knotted carpets and the early techniques re. design, colors of wools and more. Then go into the museum proper and enjoy the professional and personal guided tour, a real joy. Things you have seen on the video are there, they aren’t replicas and the whole story falls into place with a massive click. It is as though you have time travelled :0) I have a museum background and was deeply impressed by the combination of a nostalgic and at times quite personal film followed by the sight of the very same looms, colour samples and the opportunity to try the Turkish Knot at firsthand. This is a museum in the original meaning and we loved it. The maritime section was closed that day due to the funeral of one of the town fishermen but we will return next time we are in Killybegs. Thank you to the two very friendly and knowledgeable ladies who manned the museum. You were so helpful and we hope that your wonderful place “passes under the radar” of developers for many years to come.

Informative Visit to this Interesting Place
Met some friends from the Oriana cruise ship, it was great to have some place to take them because Killibegs is small port and we did not want to go off on a bus ride to some other tourist place. This Centre is really worth a visit, very interesting film of the history and workings of the craft of carpet making. This was followed by visit to the factory and museum and a very informative talk by a staff member. It was nice to see and feel the carpets. Well worth the visit.
