Old Cutler Trail, Florida, United States

4.5 (30 reviews) Spent Ranking #11 in Coral Gables Biking Trails

Beautiful ride, walk, or run

I live off this trail and never tire of walking it. The houses, the vegetation and the delicious air make it a paradise. The trail gives access to Matheson Hammock, a delightful beach plus restaurant, as well as the world-class Fairchild Gardens. This is Miami's best.

I was slightly apprehensive about biking this trail because of some reviews stating that the trail is very bumpy because of the long, winding roots of the Banyan tress on the cycling track. I am not an expert at cycling and have only just picked it up. However, the promise of old architecture, quiet trails, and some peace were enough for me to try this out. I am so glad I did. The trail is quite easy even for a beginner. Sure, the roots make their way on to the trail in certain spots, but it's hardly difficult to ride over them. The Banyan trees make this trail even more beautiful. We parked at the Cocoplum circle and rode the entire 20-mile trail (round trip). I'd recommend doing this on a cloudy day because even though the trail is shaded, when the sun finds you, it will burn you! Carry plenty of water. There is a Strabucks a few miles down the road. Get an iced tea and refill your bottles. My husband is an endurance guy, so we did the entire trail barely taking any breaks. I did not think the last few miles were as beautiful as the beginning. Maybe I was exhausted! The trail is interspersed with botanical gardens, parks, and historical buildings. These could be pit stops. The trail has some beautiful, old houses and bougainvilleas and other flowers dot the sidewalk. You cannot help but love this place!

Biking and hiking through the woods and past the Mansions.
Although the trail is bumpy in places because of tree roots, the views are great. Starting at the circle of Lajeunne Road and Old Cutler road you see hugh Mansions and boats on the river. Biking under hugh trees you pass magnificent estates, Further down the road you come to Hummock Park. Worth a pedal through, then the wonderful Fairchild gardens. The trail then cuts through a stunning neighborhood and then more gardens. The Deering estate has a great road to bike on also taking you across the china bridge.
