My Trip To Lake Kashiba

Lake Kashiba is a beautiful natural Lake surrounded by trees and well shaped white stones. It has a breath taking scenery and a very quiet environment. When visiting the lake, make sure to cary everything you need e.g drinks, food, swimming costumes if you want to swim. A good camera, portable power banks. You also need to provide your own accommodation if you want to spend a night in the area and there’s an entrance fee of K10 per person which is affordable for anybody. Caution: If you do not know how to swim, please do not swim and stay afar from the waters because if you drown, your body will never be found as this is believed to be a spiritual lake with strange things happens there.

    worth the effort
Lake Kashiba is otherwise known as thew Sunken Lake. It has a surface area of just under 4 hectares, (8.5 acres), and was thought to be formed by the action of rainwater eroding the limestone of the area, until the limestone finally collapsed forming this sink-hole lake. For those who like to swim and dive, the sides are sheer, so you can safely jump or dive in from the surrounding rocks, and there is an open challenge for scuba divers to find the true depth of the lake, because the best guess so far is about 90 metres at the shallowest side of the lake, but with efforts to determine it elsewhere saying it is bottomless. The water is so clear that standing on one of the lakeside rocks, most of which are about 10m above the surface, you can see the fish swimming around, though whilst we were there, we were not fortunate enough to see the Ichitapa, a monster which local legend has living in the lake, and if a man's shadow falls onto the lake, the Ichitapa will swallow the shadow so that the man is paralysed and falls into the lake to become the prey of the monster. As well as the lake, there is lots of bird, lizard, snake and other animal life in the area for those who like to animal-watch. Access is via a dirt road of about 15km length from St Anthony's Mission, and you need, for preference, a large-wheeled 4X4, since the road is not a smooth one. Despite the effort required to get there, it is a must visit if you get the chance.
