    Beautiful Historical Landmark! ? ? ?
Plaza Mayor is a Point Of Interest that my daughter convinced us to visit. It's more or less a notable site with centuries of history revolving around the Spanish Monarchy. Plaza Mayor has a plethora of Restaurants, Bars, Cafes, Shops- (mostly selling Madrid souvenirs, gifts and keepsakes). It's packed with tons of tourists, with just about everyone there brandishing a phone, taking lots of pictures!? There is a huge bronze statue of King Felipe III- (King Phillip The Third), who ruled Spain from 1598 to 1621. This statue/monument is in the center of the Plaza, where King Phillip is on a horse. There's a Tourist Information Center or Informacion Turista, though we didn't visit it. Plaza Mayor is more or less an expansive space, dotted with Eateries and Tourist Shops, and not much to see or do, other than 'perceive' the breathtakingly beautiful architecture of the buildings encircling that 'central' monument of King Felipe mounted on a horse. I guess it's worth a visit when in Madrid, but not somewhere I would go out of my way to recommend. Nevertheless, I'm glad I visited Plaza Mayor, if not for anything, for the gorgeous pictures we took! ?

    pretty square
a very pretty square with loads of terraces, bars and cafes and restarants to eat at. I recommend looking at the painted building (la casa de la panaderia). It is very crowded and busy, and I would say some of the small streets around it are much more relaxing and give a better sense of the city (and have a better tourist to local ratio)
