Parque de El Capricho, Community of Madrid, Spain
4.5 (1.650 reviews) Wednesday: Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #14 in Madrid Parks • Gardens
A hidden gem at the outskirts of Madrid
This gorgeous and serene park is definitely worth the Metro trip to the suburbs. Easy to get to as well, just exit at the eponymous station and follow the signs to the park. You will be greeted by lush gardens à la Versailles, ancient Roman columns, an 18th century palace, and even a Spanish Civil War bunker (although the latter is not open to the public). The highlight of your visit will be the Monument to Bacchus, a picturesque Roman edifice placed on the top of a hill deep inside the park. Be advised that El Capricho is only open during the weekends, so you need to plan ahead!

Take the time, you will be grateful you did
If you have time while in Madrid, take the metro line 5 out to one of its last stops in the east, Capricho. Walk over, best in the morning hours and not on weekends, and get in there. I was there in Spring when flowers were just up and even though the giant, natural maze was still off limits, there was plenty left to see. For instance the pond with old mansion, the witch's house, the old bunkers, the forests with statues and monuments and small streams. Just a treasure trove of old historical Madrid and lovely nature. A place I wish more people knew about, just as long as they dont go when I do.

Nice spots but problems
I think the park has very beautiful spots but it is a pity that it is open only on weekends. It would be so much helpful if it would be opened on other days. Especially because it is located very far from the center so you need long time to get there, usually. I visited in May and there were many paths closed, it was not so entertaining to visit, even toilets were closed. No entry fee necessary.
