Loved it so much

In the nearly one thousand works on display, visitors can contemplate the major periods and pictorial schools of western art such as the Renaissance, Mannerism, the Baroque, Rococo, Romanticism and the art of the 19th and 20th centuries up to Pop Art. The museum also features works from some movements not represented in state-owned collections, such as Impressionism, Fauvism, German Expressionism and the experimental avant-garde movements of the early 20th century. In addition, it boasts an important collection of 19th-century American painting not found in any other European museum institutions. Must see museum!!! Our favorite while in Madrid
This is what an art museum should look like. We loved every second of the time there. They let you take pictures which is nice because some pieces you will want to remember forever. The walking was not remotely as much as Prado or Reina Sofia and that's what we liked about it. You do not need a million rooms to have a high quality collection that draws people in. The American/US collection they have up until October 16 is the most worth it. The exhibits were organized beautifully and we never got bored. My fiance loved this museum best of the strip of museums in Madrid. So if you can go, do not hesitate, DO IT! ❤️

    a marvelous museum
What a beautiful museum. While the Prado is a must-see for its amazing Spanish paintings, this is a marvelous smaller (and manageable) collection of European art, with a strong focus on 19th and 20th centuries. It is an unusual blend, with a lot of American art as well as German and Russian art blended in with French and Italian painters. The collection of Expressionist and other Modern art is especially strong. It seems that the family liked to collect unusual/early pieces (early or late in life) of some famous artists (Toulouse-Lautrec, Kandinsky, Monet). We went on Monday (which happens to be the free day). When we arrived at the museum, the line stretched for two blocks and continued to grow. But when the museum opened at noon, it only took about 15 minutes to enter. It was crowded, but manageable. Highly recommend, especially if you are interested in art from 1850-1940.
