One of the chic neighborhoods in Madrid
This is a great barrio to walk around, pop into boutiques if you are into that kind of thing, or then sit at an outdoors cafe and grab a bebida while you people-watch. There are some excellent places to eat, classic "tavernas" that you see frequented by the elderly. Walk around, peep into the windows, and find one with a median age of 65; you will leave very pleased with the food, the service, and above all, the experience. As always, go with the Menu de Dia. And oh, if you overindulge your appetite, walk down and see the bullfighting arena (from the outside; you have to pay for an audio tour if you want to go inside).

Slightly underwhelming area, not a must see!!
Had high expectations for Salamanca touring - as read it was very posh, many mansions, etc. It is true there is high end shopping but very spread out, and perhaps a mini narrow mansion (not as opulent as Paris, etc) squeezed in between other buildings. It was far more busy (weekday - noon) than expected, even on less busy streets - didn't seem very posh or peaceful. Not a must see unless really into high end shopping.
