Pinewood Reservoir, Colorado, United States

So close for lakeside camping

Not all of the campsites feel secluded as you are still near a road and homes but many of them are nestled in the trees. It's nice because the larger RVs don't make it up here so there aren't generators and most of the sites are walk up so you are only surrounded by tents. The lake doesn't allow motorized boats so it is quiet and perfect for kayaking and fishing. There is a trail that goes all around the lake at around 3 miles and another loop can be added for more distance. Where the lake is fed the water swirls and you can hear the sound of small waves. The bathrooms could use to be pumped out more often but they're stocked with paper and they're near the campsites and the lake entry. The campground has some fun areas set up for kids to dig in the sand or jump across log pieces. They also have a scope set up on the south end of the lake to view an Osprey nest. We love how close to home this campground is letting us drive there and be completely set up in just over an hour.

The Pinewood reservoir is beautiful, peaceful and a great (though not short) walk around the Reservoir.
We did the pathway around the entire Reservoir....lovely vistas, many wildflowers and flowering cactus. The trail is easy to follow and mostly flat...”hills” are gentle. Although we didn’t know the distance around the water it ended up being about 5 miles. The trail leads you a bit away from the water in several spots adding to the total distance. Beautiful views and a lovely walk on a cool sunny day.
