Ise Shrine Geku, Chubu, Japan
4.5 (797 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Tokai Historic Walking Areas • Religious Sites
Geku is the Outer Shrine and much more accessible
The Outer Shrine is usually visited before the Inner Shrine. If you are arriving by train, Geku, or the Outer Shrine is within walking distance. We actually had to take a bus for the 20 minute ride to get to the Inner Shrine. Like the Inner Shrine, the Outer Shrine is rebuilt every 20 years. It is believed to have been established over 1500 years ago, 500 years after the Inner Shrine. We came on January 2 and it was super crowded because all the Japanese people were paying their respects.

Stroll in a religious power spot.
This shrine is the smaller one, situated not far from the town center. It is great to stroll around, and enjoy the atmosphere of greenery and mystery that floats around. You can end up in little trails in the forest, and really feel the nature around you. I visited this shrine before the bigger one the next day, and it's a good thing I did. It's like going to a different scale.

Nice place
Original and classic temple. But walk too long to go inside. The temple inside area not allow to take photo.
