D. T. Suzuki Museum, Chubu, Japan

4.5 (444 reviews) Friday: 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM Spent Ranking #4 in Hokuriku Speciality Museums

Wonderful little museum

This is a small but very elegant museum dedicated to the life and work of Daisetsu Teitaro Suzuki. He introduced Zen Buddhism to the west. It is not a big museum and you can not see much. But sitting outside by the pool and enjoy the silence and architecture is quite worth the visit. It's not far from Kenrokuen, maybe about 15 minutes walk.

    Exquisite
My ryokan host said this was his favourite museum. It’s a lively contemplative place where you can also sit and read special books. I loved its water pool. Very good English interpretations. Best combined with the Nakamura museum nearby.

One of best places to visit in Kanazawa - pure Zen
15mins walk from the castle, this is a beautiful minimalistic museum in dedication to the man who brought Zen to the west (Thank you Mr Suzuki for this!!). Lovely tranquil building - your mind goes quiet immediately, the body relaxes and you can enjoy some peaceful time here both externally and internally.
