Alexander Pushkin Museum, Chisinau District, Moldova

4.0 (105 reviews) Sunday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent Ranking #14 in Chisinau Speciality Museums

Nice place

At the entrance you will be asked to take a folder in one of three languages: English, Russian and Romanian. You can walk from room to room and read information. The museum is small and beautiful. A lot of antiques, copies of art works, letters, the originals of which are kept in other museums.

    'unique place'
Pushkin Museum in Chisinau is unique since it is the second intactly preserved house of this well-known man of letters (after Pushkin's family estate at Mikhailovskoye, Pskov region in Russia) in the world. Don't be confused however, the house in the picture is not the house where he lived - this is the museum building. The true Pushkin's house is in the back yard - very small 2x2 m room, with original surroundings and uncovered floor from where you can literally see the ground ...

Only for those with a special interest
The museum contains displays related to the life of Pushkin as well as a small cottage, decked out as it was when Pushkin lived here, exiled from Russia, together with his uncle. The cottage really isn't interesting, but the museum isn't too bad, if you are interested enough to go through all the displays. Though we tried making it clear we didn't want a guide, an English speaking guide was thrust onto us anyway, which also meant having to pay for her. At first, we weren't too appreciative, though we started to warm to her, almost funny, stern lecturing as the tour progressed.
