Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

4.5 (415 reviews) Spent Ranking #19 in Chiang Mai Speciality Museums

A hidden gem, definitely worth a visit!

This museum is absolutely amazing. Other reviews said you can cruise through in 30 minutes, however I feel if you are even vaguely interested in entomology then you should definitely set aside more time to fully enjoy what this museum has to offer. It is fairly small, but well set up and with plentiful information about the history of the owners and interesting topics like mosquito-borne diseases and termite art. I wish I had given myself more time to explore!

    A Chiang Mai Must-See
Enter the museum and behold: 2 floors packed with specimens and curiosities that you’ll never see anywhere else in the world. This museum has something for everyone: six+ toed chicken feet, the celebration of scientist’s life work, a mosquito embroidered shirt, art, elephant dung, poetry, and rocks galore. The museum also chronicles Dr Rampa and Manop’s study and categorization of Thailand’s 450 individual mosquito species and their impact to human health. However, mosquitos are just a fraction of what you’ll discover inside this magnificent menagerie and homage to the natural world. Well worth the entry fee for an hour to observe this amazing, mosquito-power couple’s collection.

    A highlight of Chang Mai
SUCH an amazing place. Spent about an hour and a half here, could easily spend more. There’s so much more than just the incredible insect collection. Also has a fantastic sea shell collection, and rock and fossil collection. I can’t believe there were some reviews saying it was expensive for what it is. It’s STUNNING. They have two and a half foot long dinosaur eggs! Incredible. Sea shells more beautiful and large than I thought possible. Such a beautiful and educational story about the mosquito-expert owners as well.
