The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Russian: Музеи изобразительных искусств им. А.С. Пушкина) is the largest museum of European art in Moscow, located in Volkhonka street, just opposite the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The International musical festival Svyatoslav Richter's December nights has been held in the Pushkin museum since 1981. The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts holds one of Russia's largest collections of foreign art from ancient times to the present day. Its modern presentation introduces visitors to the Museum's extensive study collections of toned plaster casts reproducing works of Graeco-Roman art, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The Museum also houses original paintings and sculpture, drawings and examples of decorative and applied art. In the halls on the ground floor original works of art are displayed from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, together with European paintings ranging in date from the 8th to the 8th centuries. Two halls, known as the Italian and Greek Courtyards, contain casts. The halls on the first floor display for visitors casts of art works from Ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The halls, hung with paintings, exhibit works of art from the 19th and 20th centuries. Known for its outstanding temporary exhibitions, this museum also has an impressive permanent collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist art.

We’ve planned a visit here for the whole single day, because the museum is big and there are several buildings and branches. Two of them are located next to each other: Main building and Gallery of 19th and 20th Century European and American Art. So you can spend a day there and enjoy seeing art of several centuries. The permanent exhibition is quite large: paintings, sculptures, vases and other art objects. Later I found out that the holdings of the museum contain around 700 000 art works!!! And also The Pushkin State Museum is in possession of one of the largest world art collections from Ancient Egypt and Greece to our days. You should definitely dive in these ancient artifacts and take pics there! The second building with 19th and 20th centuries' art is my favorite. Original Picasso, Matisse, Monet, Gauguin etc are must see! I could spend a few hours looking at “Lilas au soleil”! Usually you can buy a combined ticket to two buildings, but due to circumstances you have to buy them separately and strictly by session times. After watching all the exhibitions you can walk down the street towards The Kremlin. Alexander , They say the garden is magical at any season and I agree with it.

This museum made a easy way to help its visitors They brought all the famous art under one place and they don’t care if many of the exhibitions are not original ones If you go to this museum you can save going to Italian and French famous museums The heart of this museum is the ancient world Worth going there The museum is big but you have to find all the rooms some of them are hidden ones - but don’t miss any
