A must-go museum near Chekhov city
The Melikhovo estate (80 km south of Moscow) is closely connected with the name of a great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. He bought this country estate in 1892. While living there for 7 years the writer has been involved in many activities. He built 3 schools, roads and post-office building, worked as a physician (offering his services free of charge), supported local teachers in their daily work, raised funds to help fire victims and undernourished people. Meanwhile he did not give up writing. He wrote over 40 pieces of work in years 1892 to 1899, which comprise Gold Fund of World and Russian literature. Our museum cherishes the memory of Anton Chekhov, the great writer, doctor, public figure.

Best time for visiting - MAY
Great place, and especially beautiful in April and May, when all the cherry trees (which are many) are in blossom. Besides, usually this time the museum starts theatre activities and sometimes there are festivals. Opened daily from 10 to 17, closed on Mondays and every last Friday of each month. Unless you go by car, to get there from Chekhov railway station you need to take bus 25 and get off after 9 stops (the stop is called "Melikhovo"). The track will take you 20-30 minutes depending on the traffic when you leave the town.

The Tchekhov's place
In about 70 km from Moscow is this place where every square meter remembers Anton Tchekhov. His home, a house for his guests and servicemen, some dwellings, ambulance he worked for countrymen, even a little home on the tree for gull! You can admire a wonderful lilac alleyway, garden with flowers, vegetables, trees. And go through the alley of love. Partly this place means like a little piece of Ukraine, beloved place of great writer. Very impressive is his home, such a traditional and so nice, with a big Russian stove, his office, rooms for his relatives. I'd like to see sometime a lilac alleyways again...
