A beautiful park

This former village and archaeological site housed summer residences of the grand dukes of Moscow, and later of the tsars, and is now a museum and reserve.

    Lovley place to visit
We went here on a wet Monday as most places are closed on a Monday (AS ARE THE PARKS BUIDINGS AND KIOSKS), we got the green line from paveletsky to kolomenskoye. On arrival rain stopped. We left metro entrance and turned right following a footpath with a fast road to the right and shops and apartments to the left, shortly came to park entrance. The park was deserted but there are manned Police boxes all over the park, we counted five, so you feel very safe here, there were cafes and food but closed on Monday. We saw the replica Tsars summer residence and thought it so lovely we returned the next day when it was open, it was well worth returning and was fascinating, although the middle aged ladies guarding each room need a course in customer service, it was reminiscent of the blue rinse ladies who used to guard National trust properties in the UK. Incidentally the Tsars summer palace is nearer the next Metro station along on the green line, called Kashirskaya. The station is reached via an underpass under the road, you emerge into a modern station with an old 1960’s style street market, but across the highway, again use the underpass, there’s a brand new shopping mall with all the designer labels, we preferred the outdoor 1960’s version.

A bit far from the center of Moscow but worth it
An excellent escape from the big city crowds for some peace with mother nature. The wooden palace of Tsar has been rebuilt and is worth a visit for its gaudy interiors. I walked from the rocket church till the palace and did not feel unsafe at all. Make sure you go here on a clear weather day. The park is huge but both ends of the park have Metro stations. You can arrive via one and leave from the other (I got off at Kolomenskaya and took the train back to city center from Kashirskaya). If you are only interested in seeing the palace, then get off at Kashirskaya station. It is a 10 minute walk from station.
