an Absolute must! Possibly worth coming to Moscow specially!!
The museum was an extraordinary learning experience. From the concept, through the art to the 4D technology, I can recommend no place more for learning & getting insight into early jewish history & later Ashkenazi & finally, soviet Jewish history. I was absolutely blown away (and I reside in Jerusalem). The cafe is Kosher, dairy, had a nice menu & seemed to be fairly priced. Devote at least 3 hours to the museum (a bit more would be better). The museum is a ten minute walk from the metro but not so easy to find. A map added to the museum website would be helpful...

Well thought out + directions (tough to find)
This museum proved to be the most well laid out of those we visited in Moscow, taking you on a flowing story from the 4d movie introduction, to the settlement of Jews in Russia and then future transitions of people after WW2. Unlike other Moscow museums which just show you things/stuff, this provided the context, which was a nice change. It also explained the rise of socialism (Lenin) and gave an overview of Russia during WW2 (Stalin). English subtitles on movies/electronic displays were good, and could be expanded on for fixed displays (and there is room to stick it on under the Russian notes). Worth a visit if you have 3-4 days in Moscow. Tough to find, and we spent an hour or so wandering around looking for it. Once found it was easy to get back to metro, simplified into below directions. DIRECTIONS: Take the new light green line to Mar'ina Roshcha (currently end of line) - If coming from Moscow, take escalators to the south/back of train/direction train came from - Up escalators, take exit to the left - Coming out of metro, should be next to a funky looking grey curved roofed building next to you (if you see park plaza shopping mall - wrong exit) - Walk towards corner facing white/red building and cross the 4 lane road with garden strip in middle, towards trees/park - going south - Cross road and head down into underpass to cross the adjacent street - Go through underpass, head straight and take right exit out - Coming out of the underpass, the tall apartment building (white with red edges) should be on your on left, walk straight ahead with major road on right. The opposite side of road has mural with lady/books/rainbow - Walk past a small car park, over little road, continue walking next to the major 4 lane road - Walk on, with Yamaha building on right on other side of road - Turn left at next street and walk past a building with a gold sign ATJIAC on left and a pale green building with #31 on it on the right. Move to the right side of the street (green building side) - Keep walking past a bar called 'Friends House' on a black sign, on your left hand side, on other side of road - Coming to a T junction, you should be looking at a red 2-3 storey building, cross the road and then turn right and walk down street with red building on your left. - Continue past a grey building with a fence, entrance should be 200m from T junction
