A Tranquil Setting

We arrived early in the morning and were lucky to get a golf buggy and guide for an additional 1000rps. This helped us cover more than 5km of the beautiful gardens and ensured that we managed to see all the highlights within about an hour. Our guide was lovely! super friendly and informative and gave us good insight into the gardens history and fauna and flora. The entrance fee is 2000rps per person which is very reasonable considering the immaculate condition the garden is kept in. This is a must for nature lovers, photographers and artists!

A well maintained botanical garden on par with the best in the world.
This centuries old botanical garden planned by the British in the centre of the hill station Kandy, Sri Lanka is huge. There are a number of covered exhibits category wise like seasonal flowers, cactus, perennial et al., The place is well maintained and the pathways are clean. A number of families picnicking in the park are also mindful of the trash they generate and are meticulous in keeping the area clean. There are a number of species of plants and trees which are imported from across the world and are thriving in the botanical garden. One needs atleast a couple of hours to walk around the garden and enjoy the nature. The entry fee to the garden is reasonable and the park is secured fully by barbed wire fencing. The security checks at the entrance are robust. Take your camera along. Recommended.

    Worth the visit.
You don't have to be a dedicated gardener to enjoy these gardens. Trees are labelled according to whether they're native, imports, even poisonous- so don't lick these ones! We had our guide with us, and he had a lot of knowledge about some of the plants and trees, that we may have missed if we'd been by ourselves. The mahogany trees are spectacular- the root system is about a metre high. The Cannonball tree looks like it has coconuts, but they weigh about 4kg. The palm trees lining one path are huge, and the little ones in between them are the same type, but look different when they're younger. We saw flying foxes, a water monitor, birdlife, and there's an orchid house, and a small suspension bridge. We were here a few hours, and it was a very pleasant visit. Well recommended.
