Pedro Tea Factory, Central Province, Sri Lanka

Worth a visit

Factory tour with the guide was very interesting and informative. They charge a nominal fee of LKR250 for adults and my kids were allowed without a charge. They run the factory during the night shift only so couldn't see most machines working but despite that one would get a good sense of how tea is produced. We also walk down the tea bushes but didn't see any plucking activity in that part unfortunately. I would recommend this place to people who have not been to a tea factory before.

    Value for money
The factory tour itself cost 500LKR and for that you get to walk around the factory and see all the different machines and different stages of the tea making process. Our tour Gide spoke very good English and took the time to answer questions. The tour maybe lasted around 20-30mins. You can then sit in the cafe and taste one of the teas for free. There is also a gift shop. The views are really nice.

Damro factory is much better. If you are going to visit just one, go there. If you have time, can see both
Nuwara Eliya is a hill-station and we were not going to leave without seeing at least a couple of tea gardens and tea factories. Two of the most famous tea gardens in this town are the Pedro Tea Factory and Damro Labookellie Tea Factory. We drove to the Pedro Tea Factory. This is NOT a working factory and therefore we decided to skip the factory tour and instead walked part of the tea garden.
