Shopping, eating and fun
Chiado is a very lively neighborhood, set on the first western hill from the central Commercio square, but before the Barrio Alto district. The area boosts with shops, from ordinary to very elegant and unusual, tons of bars and restaurants and a lot of interesting street performers. I'd advise coming around dusk as it gets more lively after the day heat.

The heart of the action
The picture here appears to be of Praca Luis de Camoes, which seems to be the heart of Chiado. We rented an apartment right on this square...Chiado seems to be the heart of Lisbon's activity...restaurants and shops around every corner and close to everything--the famous 28 Tram car runs right through the square. Be prepared to walk up and down hills on cobblestones and if you drive the streets are cobblestone. If you stay elsewhere you are not seeing the heartbeat of the city.
