Centro Historico de Cascais, Central Portugal, Portugal

4.5 (6.787 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #4 in Central Portugal Historic Walking Areas

Our favorite city in Portugal

We have visited Cascais, Portugal many times and this past May/June we rented a lovely apartment for a month. The weather was great, the variety of restaurants in town and along the promenade are sensational. We found the people to be friendly, warm, and helpful. There is train from Cascais to Lisbon that is very economical and we traveled by train or bus our entire stay. The bus system is also very user friendly. We took trips, by train, to Porto and Lagos for short stays. We used the local train to travel to Lisbon for lunch or sightseeing or meeting friends. Cascais also has a wonderful supermarket that has absolutely everything you could possibly need or want. We are already booked for our 2020 stay. The Lisbon airport also is a gateway to other European cities so we may expand our excursions this year.

    Charming village
Cascais is about a 30-min train ride from downtown Lisbon. We went there on a very warm day in April. We spent a few hours walking around the old town, the ruin castle/fort, park area, water front and the shopping / restaurant street. There are lots of cafes and restaurants for your taste. Surprisingly there are quite a lot of Indian restaurants. We didn't try but we went to Club 20 Bar & Restaurante for a light lunch. The restaurant is operated by some young Indians and their food was excellent. There several beaches along the coast. Some of them are relatively short and narrow but there were full of people. It is a very charming small village with an array of scenery and activities you can enjoy. It is definitely worthwhile to visit. You can find pay public washroom / toilet at the rain station. There are also free ones at the beach (and of course at McDonald's, cafes and restaurants)
