Beautiful Stonework

This is an imposing monument. The stonework is impressive and well preserved. It connects Rua Augusta to the Praça do Comercio and it is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city of Lisbon. For a small fee one can go to the top and the views of the city are most rewarding.

    Beautiful Portugal
Despite the tour guide we had which was not very good, Lisbon was a very nice city which we enjoyed. Very hilly but nice. Lots of plazas and beautiful buildings. The San Jorge Castle situated high above the city offers great views. Many restaurants to choose from offering all kinds of foods. There are many day trips you can do from Lisbon, such as Sintra and Obidos. We also went to Coimbra, Nazare, Porto, Aveiro, Fatima, etc. I would recommend a trip to Portugal, not just Lisbon, but to see it all, you need to be able to walk and don't mind steep inclines.

    Jewel of Praca do Comercio
Praca do Comercio is the main and biggest square in Lisbon which once housed the Royal Palace until the devastating 1755 earthquake. The most eye catching feature on the square is this glorious Triumphal Arch, set in the middle of yellow arched state edifices on both sides of it. The Triumphal Arch represents Portugal's victory over the earthquake, as the city was rebuilt from rubble after it under Marquis de Pombal who redesigned and rebuilt much of the city. You can climb the Arch for elevated views for a small fee, but there's really no need for that as Lisbon has many free Miradouros on his hills.
