Nidaros Cathedral, Central Norway, Norway

4.5 (2.599 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #2 in Central Norway Churches & Cathedrals

Well worth the entry fee - a stunning interior.

A grey day in Trondheim and we were on an organised tour around the city. Our guide took us to the cathedral and explained about the building and said we had some free time and we could pay to go into the cathedral. It was a small fee and well worth it. The interior is stunning. Perhaps our guide should have been more insistent about going inside.

    Beautiful church and nice museum
We went to Nidarosdomen early in the morning and where the first people to visit that day. We decided to pay to go inside the church and the museum and we would recommend other people to do the same. The church was beautiful on the inside and the outside. It was cool to see the history of the church and also see the norwegian and european coin collection they had.

Impressive cathedral with lots of statues
Beeing the second largest cathedral in Scandinavia it actually felt a bit small. Compared to the biggest one (in Uppsala) it lacked all those small chambers around the walls. But all the statues made up for it. Most of the Nordic cathedral were stripped during the reformation, but here almost all statues were left intact. We spent an extra fee to walk up in the towers and castle roof and after more than 300 steps you have a wonderful view of Trondheim.
