    Excellent birdwatching and photography trip
    Spent 3 nights in Kerkini and went on 2 x 2hr boat rides with itavros dot com (also runs Lemneos hotel and works with others like ihnalatis guesthouse). Nikos is a fantastic guide - knows the lake and birds very well. Great for wildlife lovers and photographers.

    Sectacular sight of water buffalo and birds
    Having visited in April we missed the flamingos which leave Lake Kerkini in February. The little boat ride from Mandraki took us out to the middle of the lake and we saw water buffalo, different kinds of birds. The tranquil sail on the water and the magnificent sight of all the buffalo and birds and all this nature spread out before you, you do not realise it is man made (formed 1932 after water dam was built and area was flooded). It is also declared as a National Park (Ramsar Convention) and home to about 300 species of birds from all over the globe and one of the most important wetlands in Europe.
