Beautiful castle
The medieval town of Ozalj, located on the cliff above the river Kupa, offers a wonderful trip to the past. Near is the bigger town of Karlovac and it's also very near is the Slovenian border. On a hill dominated by a beautiful castle. The castle is very interesting and important historically. We were the only visitors and we enjoyed the beauty of the castle. We asked for a guide to open the tower from where it has a magnificent view of the river Kupa and the surrounding hills. Also, the view of the castle from the outside is impressive. In the castle is located the Heritage Museum which was founded in 1971. Worth to visit.

Worthwhile visit with detailed signage in English .
We first spotted this 13th C Castle crossing the Kupa River where our attention was on the dam and the 1890’s classic looking power station. After parking and entering the large castle complex, we thought the museum was closed, but the docent soon descended from the 3rd floor, collected 10 km each and led us up to the 1991 war armament collection. He then directed a circular path around the rooms; artifacts from neolithic and Roman settlements, gun displays from the Ottoman wars, 16th C religious items, 18th C furniture, 20th C immigration to America and more. Very worthwhile 1 hour visit with detailed signage in English and all questions answered.

Great photography setting.
Not much tourist infrastructure here, but very scenic. The castle is very interesting and important historically, and makes great pictures. Any easy side trip between Slovenia and Zagreb.
