The symbol of Marian faith in Croatia
Marija Bistrica church is the national shrine for Croats and this big golden statue symbolizes the miracles happened by the Virgin Mary and the people's strong faith in Catholicism. The legend says during the Ottoman invasion a priest hid the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus statue on the wall of a small church. The priest died and the statue was forgotten for long time. The statue is related with many miracles happened to the devoted Christians. The actual statue is located at the church alter. This big golden statue outside is the replica and suited for the large group gathering outside. Around the statue is the spot for candles and you can buy candles at the local shops outside of the church. There are some water falcets nearby, so you can get the water for your need. The statue is lighted up at night, so it's beautiful watching it at night.
