An imposing monument of the leader of the peasant rebellion
On the slope of the hill, next to the Oršić Castle in Gornja Stubica which overlooks the Stubica valley, stands a 6.5 meters high figure of Matija Gubec, and behind it rise two symmetrical wings - each 20 meters long and 7.50 meters high, filled with bronze reliefs showing more than three hundred characters. On one side are the scenes of the Battle of Stubica, people, horses, the clash of the noble army and the rebellious peasants, and on the other the panorama of life at that time. At the bottom of the right wing is the life-size figure of Petrica Kerempuh, with a tambourine in his hands. The author of the monument is Antun Augustinčić, and it was completed on the 400th anniversary of the Peasant Revolt and on the opening day of the Museum of Peasant Revolts in 1973.
